Harmony United Church Council Structure
Approved governance structure for Harmony United Church
Version date: October 2025
The Harmony United Church Council has a maximum of 10 elected members, plus the Clergy.
Role descriptions are documented separately, guided by the UCC Manual 2024.
Council has three types of roles:
● Executive Committee
● Division Liaison roles
● Members at Large
Executive Committee
Division Liaisons
Each division is supported by a liaison who may/may not also serve on committees, except for the Ministry & Personnel Liaison who serves as the chair of M & P.
Liaisons regularly attend and report at Council meetings, and as required provide two-way communication to any committee(s) or project groups in their division.
1 Regional representatives and trustees are “corresponding members” to Council. They do not attend all Council meetings, are non-voting, but are invited to Council meetings as needed.
Members at Large
There are one or two members at large so that the Council has a maximum of 10 elected members, plus the Clergy. *
Committees and Project Groups
This recommended governance structure is intentionally not prescriptive of how many committees or project groups are required so that we can tap into the energy of our community for various work**. The Harmony United Church Council determines which groups are formed.
Our Harmony UC website has a current list of committees and teams

* The current situation of having two Past Chairs on Council means that another MAL may be added eventually but not until 2027 when the 2-year term for Past Chair ends.
** Any committee or the council itself may form a project group for a specific and finite project or event or task. Individuals in the congregation with a vision of a project are encouraged to approach the council or the appropriate committees.
